The Boondocks has gained some notoreity for its racy content and sometimes racist commentary. The first half dozen episodes I’ve seen haven’t been all that great, but they have been increasingly interesting, so maybe once the series hits its stride it will be really good. The one good thing about watching a show like this is that it is unpredictable. So many sitcoms are just written too generically to be interesting. You can see most of the jokes or twists coming a mile away because they are trying to appeal to the widest possible audience. It’s also amusing that Charlie Murphy is the voice of one of the white characters. Samuel L. Jackson also has guest spot on the latest episode and they parody his “Say what again!” lines from Pulp Fiction to great effect. “Over the top” does not begin to describe its commentary.
Must See TV
18 09 2005Yesterday I finally bought myself a new TV. I have been mulling over the choices for what seems like months now. Originally I was going to purchase a CRT in the 32″ to 34″ range because Sony has some that have just about the best picture you can find today. But the problem with the big tubes is, they’re big. And heavy. And I have a little car. Recently a friend of mine bought an LCD TV and was raving about it. After helping someone move (and keeping the weight of furniture and whatnot firmly in mind because this) Mr. Thirsty and I stopped in at Best Buy and browsed the selection. I decided on the Sony KLV-S32A10 because it was a Sony, the picture was great, it was a good size for where it needs to go in my apartment, and it had some good features without being prohbitively expensive. I really like the set, and have been testing out different things on it basically ever since I bought it. I have played some widescreen PS2 games now that the PS2 is connected by component color cables, watched Dawn of the Dead on DVD, and am currently watching Sunday afternoon football on it. The TV is capable of HD, but I didn’t get one with a built in HDTV tuner because I wasn’t sure how much I really wanted it. This way I can add it later with an external HDTV Tuner. The only thing I could ask for more is another component color input (I had to connect the Gamecube via S-Video).
