James Hetfield at Theresa and Johnny’s

10 01 2007

A group of us from work frequent Theresa and Johnny’s, a good “comfort food” diner in downtown San Rafael. We decided to go there for lunch yesterday and who was there? None other than James Hetfield of Metallica fame. I knew he lives somewhere in Marin, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen him out and about before. One of the other guys mentioned that seeing him shoe shopping for his kids is enough to take some of the edge off his tough metal persona. ;)

Sorry, You Are Not A Winner

Tell me about it. I played some stupid “check your gamecode on-line” thing I found on my McDonald’s fries, but all I got was a hurtful message.

Habanero Tequila @ Tommy’s

21 01 2006

A good friend is in town from Australia on business and we decided to get together with some of our old co-workers and have some good food and great Margurita’s at Tommy’s Friday night. Towards the end of the conversation the talk turned to the topic of Julio’s Habenero tequila and how it had very nearly damaged two of my mates permanantly a week or two prior. So this Australian friend, of course, wanted to try it and wanted me to go along with him. Read the rest of this entry »

Energy Drink Review – Lucozade

21 02 2005

Another Irish energy drink from the corner store. According to rumor, this is a favorite amongst the hung-over Irish construction worker crowd. Let’s see how it works out…

Appearance: Comes in a glass bottle (300mL) which is entirely coated in a plastic wrapper. Liquid appears light amber in color.
Flavor: Fairly bland but with a dangerous sort of chemical aftertaste. If I had to guess what spinal fluid tasted like this would be it.
Results: About a half hour after drinking this I had to drink some coffee. Pretty disappointing.

If you are looking for something that will freak you out because it tastes… unnatural, then this is for you. Otherwise let it be.

/pizza

Mr. Thirsty pointed me at this page which boasts one of the most interesting game features I’ve ever heard of. In the massively multiplayer online game EverQuest II you can type “/pizza” in the console and it will take you to a web page at which you can order a pizza from Pizza Hut online. If they add the ability to order beer online, I may just buy the game even without planning on even actually playing it.

Energy Drink Review – Kick Start

17 02 2005

I have taken to trying out new and exciting energy drinks from the corner store at the end of my block. They have a variety of Scottish and Irish drinks that are just too tempting to pass up. Todays drink hails from Ireland and is called Kick-Start. I’d love to post a url but I can’t find one… hmm… should I be worried?

Appearance: Comes in a clear plastic bottle with pictures of molecules and such on it (500ml). Drink is orange in color.
Flavor: Starts with a strong Pine-Sol flavor which rapidly diminishes into a plastic-ish aftertaste. Overall not bad.
Results: I suddenly seem to have a cold and slight headache. Moderately wired. Will update post as other effects become apparent.

Thanks-alot-giving

We are having our annual “Transplant’s Thanksgiving” at our apartment again this year. A tradition that Amon Photek began in ‘01 and he and I have hosted for ‘02 and ‘03. This year should be a little smaller than last, which was out of control so I am looking forward to it. I hope all you happy little hippies will be enjoying your tofurky’s and whatnot while we dine on bird and swine. Remember kids, the deep frier is not a toy. But I would like to see what happens when you dump a whole bag of fireworks into one… maybe next year.
