Je suis arrivé à Montréal.

Well, technically I arrived last night. The day of travel was a bit longer than we had planned on as we discovered upon arrival at SFO that our first flight of the day was delayed by 3 hours. Apparently the plane had a leaking brake line and they had to fly in the replacement part in order to fix it. There were no problems getting a new connecting flight from Cincinnati to Montreal, but that new flight was also delayed by about an hour because the plane we were to take was coming from Texas and facing 130 knot headwinds, which slowed it down. When we finally made it in, customs was a breeze as there were very few travelers at 11PM on a Thursday. I got my first stamp in my passport and the customs lady said she was always tempted to stamp “right on their faces” as the new US passports have a lot of portraits on the visa pages. I said to go for it but “be gentle, it’s my first stamp.” ;)

We’ve had a lot of laughs already and its fun to have the whole crew (minus Shawn and Jenny, miss you guys!) together just having fun. I say just having fun, but really some of the guys are quite busy with wedding preparation stuff. I don’t have to deal with any of that as I am just a guest. I was a groomsman in a friends wedding once and I can’t say that it was much fun, other than the bachelor party.

It’s not my first time outside the US, but it has been a long time. I grew up in central NY state and we would occasionally go to Toronto and Niagara Falls. This was my first time in Montreal though, and although I didn’t have a lot of time to spend in the city itself because of the wedding, I did get a chance to wander around the Old Port of Montreal, which is quite picturesque.

I didn’t make it down to Mexico, even though I was right across the border in San Diego. I was the only one who had his passport with him, and no one was really in the mood to brave the Mexican prostitute gauntlet that is Tiajuna.
